Let’s make some handmade Celebration Cards!

We are celebrating today with a set of two celebration cards.

I started these cards by stamping and embossing the images from the Celebrate stamp set from Pinkfresh Studio in gold embossing powder. Next, I used the coordinating stencils and blending brushes to color in the images. I kept it simple using only five ink colors. The colors I used were cherry blossom, peony, sage, eucalyptus, and lemon whip. You could simplify it even further by choosing only one pink and one green ink and simply using a lighter then a heavier application. I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images. Sentiments were stamped and die cut from the Pinkfresh Studio Celebrate banners set.

For the backgrounds, I used the same ink colors but applied the ink through the background stencils, using a heavier application to the left. I used two different background stencils from Pinkfresh Studio: leafy squares and modern mosaic. I don’t believe these are available anymore, but lots of background stencils would work for this project.

At this point, all that was left to do was assemble the cards. I popped up the layers with a mix of foam tape and stacked die cuts. For the confetti card, I softened the background by adding in a layer of vellum.

Both cards were finished off with some gorgeous gold glitter pops of color.

Mixed Media – Let’s play with our supplies and see what happens

For today’s card project, I made a pair of mixed media butterfly cards.

The definition of mixed media projects is combining more than one medium to your project. Something as simple as stamping with ink and embossing powder would be a mixed media project. However, commonly we think of mixed media projects needing paints, pastes, inks, etc.

For today’s project, I combined some heat embossing, stenciling, paste and stamping to create a fun background. I then layered some simple die cuts and sentiments on top to finish the card. You can watch the entire process unfold here on my YouTube channel:

Make a card in minutes — Happy Bird-Day Card!

If you are looking for fun birthday cards that come together very quickly, be sure to check this one out!

These Tweet Life stencils and stamps from Concord and 9th bring together images very quickly. I started by selecting the large bird body stencil and lightly ink blended three Pinkfresh Studio ink colors in sections – sunshine, mimosa, and passion fruit. I then inked up the wing on top, using a heavier application of ink.

I added the eye, beak, cute feet and sentiment using some versafine black ink. All that was left to do is mount it on a piece of black and white striped cardstock and I was done. It took about 7 minutes to make it from start to finish!

Hero Arts Wild Columbine Floral cards

In today’s card project, I played with the Wild Columbine bundle from Hero Arts an some distress inks to make a beautiful floral birthday card with a hint of vintage inspiration. Come and visit me on YouTube for the full video tutorial:

To start this project, I stamped out the floral image from the Hero Arts Wild Columbine stamp set and heat embossed using some gold embossing ink. I then used the coordinating stencils to color in the flower using Distress Inks in wilted violet, villainous potion, salvaged patina and peacock feathers. I cut out the image using the coordinating die.

For the background, I stamped out the Hero Arts positive script bold prints stamps and heat embossing using gold embossing powder. I then trimmed down the panel to 4×5.25 inches using the Tim Holtz deckle trimmer. Next, I created a gradient background from purple to white by blending wilted violet and villainous potion inks and fading the inks into white across the card.

I heat embossed the happy birthday for you sentiment from the wild columbine stamp set and heat embossed that with gold embossing powder. I used foam tape and extra die cuts to stack up my elements for some fun dimension.

I also made this card some friends using some different color combinations.

EASY ombre butterfly cards with metallic accents and rub-ons!

Hey Crafty Friends! I am so excited to be back on the blog to share another fun card with you all today. I had lots of fun making this one as I was very excited to try some sentiment rub-ons. I generally tend to add sentiments with either stamping or die cutting, so this was different for me. I also challenged myself to think outside the box and use a slimline die for a regular A2 size card. I want to challenge you to take a look at your background dies and see if they have any small elements that you could use to stretch your supplies.

To start this project, I selected 4 colors of cardstock from the warms smooth cardstock paper pad. I love these small paper pads because the colors go together perfectly, and I don’t need to dig through multiple paper packs to find colors that pair nicely together. I went with yellow, orange, coral, and red-ish shades. I then die cut each of these using the slimline spring floral die.

Once all my images were die cut, I layered 6 butterfly die cuts, while making sure I had the lighter shade on top. I adhered them in the middle with liquid glue and fluffed up the wings for dimension.

For the sentiment, I trimmed out gorgeous metallic rub on that says “wishing you a wonderful day”. This sentiment is from the card maker sentiments, rub-on transfers, also from scrapbook.com. I applied the rub on to a white A2 size card base.

Next up, I adhered the butterflies along the left edge of my card, in ombre color order. There was a bit more white space than I wanted, so I filled in the gaps by layering up some of the tiny floral die cuts from the same background die.

To complete the card, I added some metallic accents with some Hero Arts gold pearls, both on the butterflies, on the centers of the flowers, and to fill in some of the background.
